Winedale Historical Center

The Winedale Historical Center is a facility primarily used for the study of the ethnic cultures of central Texas. Located on 215 acres, it consists of a visitor’s center, a complex of restored historic structures, a log barn converted for theatrical performances (See Shakespeare at Winedale) a conference center with dormitory and seminar facilities, a research center, a nature trail, herb gardens, a picnic area and beautiful Lake Winedale.

The largest events of the year are the two wonderous craft shows called the Spring Festival and the Oktoberfest. Both offer the Texas Crafts Exhibition, a juried show of some of the finest arts and crafts in the state. At both events, early Texas skills and decorative arts are demonstrated on the grounds by artisans in period clothing. Blacksmithing, soapmaking, weaving, quilting, gooseplucking, fireplace cooking and many other interesting nineteenth century crafts are exhibited by expert modern artisans.

All the while, bluegrass bands, traditional a capella groups, cloggers and other performers roam the grounds for your listening pleasure.

Other special seminars are held throughout the year on subjects as diverse as herbal gardening and decorative arts.
