THE NET JUNKIE PRIMER
Lesson Two

Now, little net junkie, it's time to see some really strange stuff. You won't believe this, but that green and white (It may be blue and white on your monitor) liquid in the picture to your right is water! You know, that stuff you have to drink when you can't get Pepsi or Dr. Pepper. We call it an ocean. There are places in the world where it gets miles deep!
Hard to believe? Well it's true, and the whole thing is full of all sorts of living creatures...No...really!
It's sort of like this...
Imagine you had the biggest Cray supercomputer with like endless memory and unbelievably fast processors and you created a piece of software that created new applications all the time, each one with a small variation from the last.
Okay, now imagine that there is some very badass anti-virus software out there, a kind of SuperNorton, that runs around after all these new applications and gobbles them up as fast as it can so that only the fastest and slickest applications get away.
Now, just say these little aps that escape ol' SuperNorton grow and grow until they are big badass aps and they start eating all the new little aps too until finally the whole system finds a kind of balence and forms a sort of network a lot like the internet.
So all the time, old pieces of software that are too slow, or were designed for an old operating system or had poor marketing are becoming obsolete and new aps are springing up from little venture capital startups.
That's just how it is in the ocean. We call it evolution.
Scary huh?
Some people fish in the ocean and some people ride in big cruise ships and play shuffleboard and relax. Some people take ocean kayaks and explore the coastline. Some people lay in the sand along the sides of the ocean and drink margaritas and sunbathe...
...but not you little internet junkie...no, not you.
