Thank
you for visiting the Hearne Chamber Of Commerce
website. Hearne, a people friendly town of 4,690, is in
Robertson County. It is conveniently located in central Texas
in the middle of a triangle formed by Dallas/Fort Worth,
Houston, and San Antonio. Only 25-miles from Bryan-College
Station and Texas A&M University, Hearne offers visitors
and residents alike an opportunity to escape the hustle and
bustle of the big city and enjoy Hearne's peaceful, small town
charm. |
 |
|

Known as "The Crossroads Of
Texas," Hearne is nestled at the crossroads of three major
highways as well as two major Union Pacific Railroad
lines. TX 6, US 79, & US 190 cross in
Hearne. The former east-west Missouri Pacific Railroad
line converges with the former north-south Southern Pacific
Railroad line in Hearne. Union Pacific's Hearne hub sends
crews and trains out in many
directions. |
In 2010,
Hearne's
Local & Transportation History Museum & Visitors' Center at Hearne's turn of the
century, arrow-shaped depot will open for visitors. While
the structure is being completed, antique furnishings & exhibits
containing local, railroad, & depot memorabilia are being added.
Check back here or call 979.279.2351 for
details. |

At the
Camp Hearne World War II
Prisoner Of War Camp, some 5,000 prisoners, many of
them from General Rommel's Afrika Korps, were housed at Camp
Hearne between 1942 - 1946. A full-scale model of the camp
is at the Hearne Chamber of Commerce office. Efforts are
underway to preserve the camp and build a roadside park with a
visitors center. Have you read the new book, Lone Star
Stalag: German Prisoners Of War At Camp

The
Hearne Municipal Airport
runway is the longest in central Texas
with 7,200 feet of
paved runway infrastructure. Once used
as a runway to shoot landings by fighter jets from the
Strategic Air Command in San Antonio, the Hearne Airport now
hosts Robertson County's Air Weather Observation System
(AWOS) which provides pilots and others with local weather conditions. |
